3rd Floor- Holds the interior restaurant space, the exterior dinning, and the exterior roof bar. The programmatic placement of these spaces is to enhance the idea of caring and urban atmosphere above the street level as well as to provide above ground views of the whole Market Square Park.
2nd Floor- The program galleries are located in this level as well as a theater specifically for the gallery presentations. The northeast side of the building is glass to connect with Market Square Park as well as to take advantage of the minimal indirect northern light to let into the galleries.
1st Floor- Retail is located on the first floor because this is where they will receive more exposure with the ground level and business will likely be more successful opposed to retail being located above ground. Noise levels in this floor are higher because the space is more activated as well as the street noise brought in by vehicles and pedestrians. The two main entrances are located in the first floor as well.
Basement Floor- The basement floor holds the required theater space. The reason to put the theaters underground is by thinking of efficiency and how the majority of the time the theaters require for the light fixtures to be turned off.
Northeast Section
Operable Vertical Louvers
The Northeast elevation of the project is composed of mostly glass to take advantage of the minimal indirect northern sunlight the site receives being that there is a ten story building on the southwest elevation. An issue to this project is to bring in natural daylight to the required spaces. The use of operable vertical louvers is used to let in indirect sunlight as well as change the experience of the programmatic spaces.
Showing vertical louvers opened when there is presentations taking place and louvers being closed when something is being projected.
Urban atmosphere of Market Square Park
Idea of bringing the green urban atmosphere of Market Square Park into the street. First addressing the street by activating more green space to provide a small buffer of trees between retail and vehicles on the street. Using elevated green open air spaces that also provide nice views towards Market Square and away from high noise levels on the ground floor.
